Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your use of the MealCanvas mobile application (the "App") provided by JGAP Ventures LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide to us is accurate.

2. The Service

MealCanvas is a calorie and nutrition tracking app. You can log a meal by photo (AI identifies the foods), by voice (AI transcribes and identifies), by barcode scan, by searching USDA FoodData Central, or by quick-adding a calorie value directly. The App also tracks weight, computes an adaptive estimate of your maintenance calories, and (with your permission) syncs with Apple Health or Health Connect. Some features are free. AI-based logging paths (photo and voice) and other features require a paid subscription (see Section 4); manual paths remain available on the free tier.

3. Your account

MealCanvas accounts are anonymous by default. You can use the App without providing an email address. If you choose to claim your account (Profile → Account & subscription → Save your account) to sync across devices, you are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity under your account. Please notify us at legal@jgapventures.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

4. Subscription terms

The App is offered on a subscription basis through your Apple App Store or Google Play account. The following terms apply to all paid subscriptions.

4.1 Pricing and billing periods

MealCanvas is offered as a single-tier subscription with a choice of two billing periods. Both periods unlock the same features. Prices shown are in U.S. dollars; local pricing is shown to you on the App's paywall and at checkout:

  • Monthly — $4.99 per month.
  • Yearly — $29.99 per year (approximately 50% off the equivalent monthly cost).

We may change pricing for new subscribers at any time. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price increase takes effect, and you will have the opportunity to cancel before the change applies to your subscription.

4.2 Free trial

New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial. If you start a free trial and do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription will begin and you will be charged the then-current subscription price. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you start a paid subscription.

4.3 Auto-renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each subscription period at the then-current renewal price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID or Google Play account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.

4.4 Cancellation

You can cancel a subscription at any time by following the instructions on our support page or directly in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you will continue to have access to paid features until then.

4.5 Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refund eligibility is determined under the policies of the applicable store (Apple Media Services Terms or Google Play Terms). To request a refund, contact Apple or Google directly; we cannot issue refunds on their behalf.

4.6 Apple-specific terms

If you obtained the App from the Apple App Store, your use of the App is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"). You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and JGAP Ventures LLC, not Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. If there is any conflict between the Apple EULA and these Terms with respect to your use of the App on an Apple device, the relevant terms of the Apple EULA control. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in any way that violates these Terms.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise extract the source code of the App, except where this is expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Upload content that is illegal, obscene, infringing, defamatory, or that violates anyone's privacy.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App, the servers we use, or the services of our third-party providers.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, mine, or otherwise harvest data from the App.

6. Not medical advice; AI limitations

The App does not provide medical, nutritional, or other professional advice. The AI used to identify foods in your photos and voice clips can be wrong — including misidentifying a food, missing items on the plate, transcribing voice incorrectly, or estimating portions inaccurately. Nutrition values are sourced from third-party databases (such as USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts) and may not perfectly reflect what you actually ate.

AI estimates are approximate and may not match exact nutritional values. Always consult a healthcare professional for medical or dietary advice. Do not rely on the App for any medical or health-related decision — especially if you have a health condition, are pregnant or nursing, are managing a specific diet for medical reasons, or are giving the App to a minor.

7. Your content

You retain all rights to the photos, voice clips, meal logs, weight records, and other content you submit to the App ("Your Content"). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, process, and display Your Content solely as necessary to operate the App and provide you the services described in these Terms — including transmitting your meal photos and voice clips to our AI provider for food identification. We do not use Your Content to train AI models, and we do not sell Your Content.

8. Our intellectual property

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use. All other rights in the App, including trademarks, software, design, and content we provide, are owned by JGAP Ventures LLC or its licensors.

9. Termination

You can stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms or if we are required to do so by law. Upon termination, your right to use the App ends immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ACCURATE, UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT FOOD IDENTIFICATION OR NUTRITION VALUES WILL BE CORRECT.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JGAP VENTURES LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (a) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (b) US$50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless JGAP Ventures LLC from any claim, demand, loss, or damages (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the App, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to Section 14, the state and federal courts located in Texas will have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App.

14. Disputes

Before filing any claim, you and JGAP Ventures LLC agree to first try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at legal@jgapventures.com. If we cannot resolve a dispute within 60 days of that contact, either party may bring the dispute in the courts identified in Section 13.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by email to your account address. Continuing to use the App after a change becomes effective means you accept the updated Terms.
