Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how JGAP Ventures LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the MealCanvas mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Who we are

MealCanvas is operated by JGAP Ventures LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Texas, with a mailing address at 8533 Fairhaven St, San Antonio, TX 78229. You can contact us about privacy at privacy@jgapventures.com.

2. How accounts work in MealCanvas

MealCanvas accounts are anonymous by default. When you first open the App, we create an anonymous user record identified by a random UUID — we do not ask you for an email address or any other identifying information to start using the App.

If you want to sync your data across devices or recover it if you reinstall the App, you can claim your account from Profile → Account & subscription → Save your account. Claiming attaches an email address (and password) to your existing anonymous user record. Claiming is optional. You can use MealCanvas indefinitely without ever providing an email address.

3. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Email address (only if you claim your account). Stored as part of your Supabase auth record. Passwords are stored as a salted hash by our authentication provider — we never see or store your plaintext password.
  • Optional display name if you choose to set one.
  • Meal photos. When you log a meal by photo, the image is sent to a third-party service for food identification (see Section 5) and is not stored on our servers — photos stay on your device, so they do not sync between devices. If you photograph your scale's display to log a weigh-in, that image (which shows your weight and, on some smart scales, your body-fat percentage) is sent to the same service the same way and likewise never stored server-side.
  • Voice recordings. When you press and hold the microphone button to log a meal by voice, the audio clip is sent to the same AI service for transcription and food identification.
  • Meal and nutrition data. The foods, portions, calories, and macros associated with the meals you log, plus optional fields like meal name, time, and notes.
  • Health and fitness data. Weight, body-fat percentage, body measurements, daily calorie totals, and macro totals that you enter or that are computed from your meals.
  • Profile and goal data. Daily calorie or macro goals, target weight, target weekly rate, and other preferences you set.
  • Personal food database ("My Foods"). Foods you save for reuse.
  • Customer support. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.

Information collected automatically

  • App activity. Log timestamps and in-app interactions used to compute your adaptive TDEE (the App's estimate of your real maintenance calories, learned from logged intake vs. measured weight change over 14+ days).
  • Subscription and purchase data. If you start a free trial or subscribe, our subscription provider receives a pseudonymous user identifier, the product purchased, transaction timestamps, and trial / renewal status. We do not receive your full credit-card number.
  • Crash and diagnostic data. If the App crashes or hits an error, an anonymized stack trace, breadcrumb log, and a short screen recording with all text and images masked are sent to our crash reporter (see Section 5). The only user identifier attached automatically is your anonymous Supabase user UUID — we do not ship your email, name, or device identifiers with crash reports. Exception: if you use the in-app “Send feedback” form, the message you type and — if you leave it filled in — your email address are sent alongside, so we can reply.

Health Connect (Android) and Apple Health (iOS)

If you turn on the Health Connect or Apple Health integration, the App can:

  • Write the calories and macros you logged in MealCanvas into your platform's health store.
  • Read weight readings from connected scales (or other health apps you've authorized to write to the health store).

The integration is off by default, opt-in per platform, and can be revoked at any time from your platform's privacy settings. Health data accessed through these integrations is used only to operate the App for you; it is not sold, used for advertising, used to train AI models, or shared with any third party.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers. We do not run third-party advertising in the App.

4. How we use your information

  • To provide the core features of the App — identifying foods in your photos and voice clips, looking up nutrition, and saving your meal log.
  • To sync your data across your devices when you've claimed your account and signed in.
  • To compute your adaptive TDEE and goal projections.
  • To process your subscription, including starting and ending free trials and recording renewal status.
  • To respond to support requests you send us.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud or abuse, and to comply with legal obligations.
  • To monitor and fix the App's stability and performance using anonymized crash and error reports.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising. We do not use your meal photos, voice clips, weight records, or meal data to train artificial-intelligence models, and we do not allow any third-party processor we use to do so on its own behalf.

5. Third-party services we use

MealCanvas relies on a small number of third-party processors to operate. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and (where applicable) a data processing agreement with us.

  • Supabase — hosts our authentication and database. Your data is isolated by row-level security so only your own user can read it. Meal photos are not uploaded to Supabase — they stay on your device. See the Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Google Gemini API — performs vision, audio, and text inference for food identification and scale reading. Meal photos, voice clips, typed meal descriptions, photos of your scale's display, and the names of foods you log most often (used to improve identification of your usual meals) are sent to Google for processing in real time. We use the paid Gemini API tier, which (per Google's terms) does not use your inputs or outputs to train Google's models, and stores prompts and responses only for a limited period for abuse-prevention and legal-compliance purposes. See Google's Gemini API Additional Terms.
  • Sentry — receives crash reports, error breadcrumbs, and masked screen recordings when the App misbehaves, plus anything you submit through the in-app feedback form (including your email address if you provide it there). The user identifier attached automatically is your anonymous Supabase UUID only. See Sentry's privacy notice.
  • USDA FoodData Central — public nutrition database. We send food names (not personal information) to look up nutrition values.
  • Open Food Facts — community-maintained barcode database. When you scan a barcode, only the scanned barcode number is sent. No personal information is included in the lookup. See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat — manages our subscription state. Receives a pseudonymous identifier, the product you purchased, transaction status, and the receipt provided by Apple or Google. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
  • Resend — delivers transactional emails (account-claim confirmations, password resets, deletion confirmations) to users who have claimed their account. Resend receives only the email address it needs to deliver the message and the message contents. See Resend's privacy policy.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — process all payments and store your billing details. We never receive your payment card number. Your subscription is managed in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.

6. How long we keep your information

  • Account, meal, weight, and goal data — kept until you delete your account (see Section 8). On account deletion we perform a hard delete with cascade across all sync tables — we do not retain a copy beyond Supabase's short-term automatic database backups, which auto-expire. Meal photos never leave your device, so deleting the App deletes them.
  • Subscription records — Apple, Google, and RevenueCat retain receipts and transaction records on their side as required by tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution law. Those records exist independent of your MealCanvas account.
  • Limited crash logs — Sentry-side retention follows Sentry's defaults; the only identifier attached is your anonymous user UUID, which is not linkable to a person without our Supabase database.
  • Support emails — kept for a reasonable period for follow-up and dispute resolution.

7. How we share your information

We share your information only with the third-party processors listed in Section 5, and only as necessary to provide the App. We may also disclose information if required by law, in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of JGAP Ventures LLC, our users, or others. If JGAP Ventures LLC is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do not share your data with third parties for advertising.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Access and correction. You can view and edit your meal log, weight history, goals, and (if claimed) account email from inside the App.
  • Account and data deletion. Inside the App: Profile → Account & subscription → Delete account. From the web (no app reinstall required): see our Delete account page.
  • Subscription management. Manage, pause, or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings — not inside the App.
  • Health Connect / Apple Health. Revoke the App's access at any time from your platform's privacy settings.
  • Communications. Transactional emails (account-claim confirmations, password resets, deletion confirmations) are only sent to users who have claimed their account, and are required to operate those flows. We do not currently send marketing emails.

9. California, Colorado, Virginia, and other U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on the U.S. state you live in, you may have additional rights — including to know what personal information we have about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of certain kinds of sharing. To exercise these rights, email us at privacy@jgapventures.com. We do not sell personal information and do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising.

10. International users

The App is operated from the United States, and information you provide is processed in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

11. Children

MealCanvas is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please email us at privacy@jgapventures.com and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information — including encryption in transit (HTTPS to every backend), encryption at rest per each processor's defaults, hashed passwords, and row-level security on your account data. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be communicated through the App or (for users who have claimed their account) by email.
